You Tell Us: Who is on Your Holiday Cards Mailing List?

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 02:58pm

This year, my parents ordered two different holiday card designs. My mom decided she would send her favorite card only to long-distance friends and relatives, saving the other non-photo holiday cards for local friends, coworkers and family members whom they see more often. Although I thought she had it backward, she argued quiet convincingly that she wanted to send more photos and family updates t[...]

Creature Feature: Narwhals

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 02:02pm

I have to confess, I am crazy about narwhals. Maybe it’s the way they resemble fantasy creatures like unicorns. Maybe it’s their dolphin-like smiles. Maybe it’s the friendly narwhal in Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer? These rare and mysterious creatures live in icy Northern waters, and seem almost magical. They also make a great crafting subject! Here are some narwhals[...]

Getting in the spirit...

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 01:56pm

I'm off to the craft sale at Martha Stewart Living. Tomorrow Saturday it's open to the public. Here are some sneak peeks at what I'll be selling. I didn't realize it but there seems to be a color palette going on. It's a little bit of a trek to the very west side of Manhattan but it would be great to see you.

Winter: Hibernation & Reinvigoration

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 12:41pm

Ice, Elements #7 ©2009 WTEK As the days get shorter and I see less and less of the sun, I find I want to slow down and do nothing.  I want to take a nap and go to bed early.  I want to sleep in.  I want to lie around all day reading books and drinking tea (or coffee) watching the birds outside my back door.  I want to be snowed in (reasonably).  Basically, I want to h[...]

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 12:39pm

Yay! Guess what I found in my basement yesterday. My starter needle felting kit that I've had for gosh, 3 or 4 years now and still haven't had a chance to really try out. I was sent a review copy of Felting for Baby by Make Good Books earlier this Fall and got very excited to finally figure out wet and needle felting. Felting for Baby is a Japanese craft book, in English! Makes all[...]

Re: Dinohorsie and herb

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 10:57am

Thanks very much ! I made them from fake fur I got at Dunelm, a local craft type shop, it looked a bit disgusting on the roll, but I knew it would work! I forgot to mention too, that Dinohorsie's pretty big, about 2ft long!

Throw a White Elephant Gift Exchange – with downloadable invite & rules!

Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 09:11am

One of my favorite parties to throw during (or after!) the holiday season is a White Elephant gift exchange party.  We do one every year, and it’s always a lot of fun.  It’s also a great icebreaker party or office party, too! Last year, I made up some invitations, a rule sheet, and a number sheet so you can easily throw your own.  Since some of you might not have[...]
